South Texas Health System Clinics Launches New Outpatient Rehabilitation and Family Medicine Clinics in Palmhurst

With clinics, hospitals and freestanding emergency rooms spanning from Mission to Weslaco, South Texas Health System is proud to be the largest healthcare provider in Hidalgo County. Its impact and reach in the RGV continues to grow to meet the healthcare needs of the community. In just the past year, STHS Clinics has opened four new practices of various specialties and has now expanded into Palmhurst with the fifth and sixth.

On Thursday, January 13, 2022, STHS Clinics held a small, socially distanced ribbon cutting to celebrate the grand opening of its newest clinics — family medicine and outpatient rehabilitation — located in adjacent suites off Conway Ave. and Buddy Owens Blvd.

Whether needing various therapies to regain strength and life skills after a major injury, treatment for a wide array of medical conditions or other forms of primary care, the rehab and family medicine clinics boast experienced, skilled teams of physicians, therapists and support staff in a modern facility with a combined total of 6,930 square feet featuring advanced equipment.

“I’m looking forward to serving the healthcare needs of the community of Palmhurst," said Dr. Audrey Gutierrez, a physician at the STHS clinic. "My primary goal is to provide preventive care in an effort to avoid complications related to chronic conditions such as diabetes and hypertension. I also enjoy treating pediatric patients and addressing women’s health and mental health concerns. It’s gratifying to be here practicing near the community I grew up in, and I look forward to continuing to improve the health outcomes of both new and existing patients.”

With a population of just under 3,000, these clinics exist as both the city’s first family medicine clinic and full-service outpatient rehab, offering occupational, physical and speech therapy.

“Our residents no longer have to look outside the city for comprehensive, quality care,” said Ramiro J. Rodriguez, Mayor, City of Palmhurst. “We are excited to welcome STHS Clinics into our growing and thriving community and are hopeful that by having these two facilities so centralized and accessible, our residents will not hesitate to take immediate action to seek care when suffering from an illness or pain.”

Along with Dr. Gutierrez, Dr. Francisco Garza Salinas practices out of the Family Medicine Clinic. Therapists at the Outpatient Rehabilitation Clinic include Corina Gonzalez, OTR; Anthony Esquivel, DPT; and Ana Vallejo, SLP.
