Chronic pain is not normal; no one should be living with insufferable body pain. Whether the pain developed from an injury, degenerative disk disease, arthritis or an undiscovered cause, physical therapy can help patients minimize their aches and pains while restoring their mobility and independence.

Individuals ready to stand up to the pain and achieve their optimal level of function have a new option for treatment at STHS Clinics Outpatient Rehabilitation Clinic in Mission.

On Thursday, September 23, patients, practitioners, local community organizations and STHS leaders gathered for a socially distanced grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony to launch the latest facility at STHS Clinics, and its first of three outpatient rehabilitation clinics set to open in the Rio Grande Valley.

“Our residents are resilient. Although the pandemic caused furloughs and other setbacks, the tide is turning. People are getting back to work and The City of Mission is on track for recovery and growth,” said Aida Lerma, Mission Assistant City Manager. “In order to maintain this trajectory, our constituents need to be in good physical health. We’re thankful for this new outpatient rehab clinic opening in our city and supporting this mission.”

In addition to offering physical therapy to help patients improve their balance, endurance and strength, the clinic also specializes in occupational and speech therapy, which support an individual in enhancing their living skills — daily routines including bathing and cooking — and managing a communication disorder, respectively.

“We strive to provide innovative therapy services that help restore function and improve the quality of life for our patients,” said occupational therapist Corina Gonzalez. “Oftentimes a patient who suffered a physical trauma, such as a major car accident, requires multiple forms of therapy. Here, they can receive all their treatment under one roof from specialists working together for the shared purpose of supporting their recovery.”
