
Douglas A. Matney joined South Texas Health System as Group Vice President in January 2007. As head of acute care services for the Upper Rio Grande Valley's largest hospital group, Matney is responsible for the oversight of all strategic, operational, and administrative activities at the system's five facilities that include: Edinburg Children's Hospital, Edinburg Regional Medical Center, McAllen Medical Center, McAllen Heart Hospital and South Texas Behavioral Health Center.
Matney had more than 20 years of executive experience in the acute healthcare field before he came to his current role at South Texas Health System. Prior to joining the Rio Grande Valley's premier healthcare system, he held the position of Chief Executive Officer of Del Sol Medical Center in the border city of El Paso, Texas, where he was responsible for all operational aspects of the 336-bed acute care hospital.
As former Senior Vice President of Operations for Columbia Healthcare System in El Paso and Vice President of Operations for Manatee Memorial Hospital in Bradenton, Florida, Matney offers an incredible ability to lead and drive the hospital's initiatives forward.
Matney holds a Master of Health Science degree and a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Florida. He also holds a Bachelor of Science in Health Systems degree from the Georgia Institute of Technology.
