South Texas Health System Code of Conduct

STHS is dedicated to creating and supporting a culture that promotes the highest standards of ethics and compliance. We must never sacrifice ethical and compliant behavior in the pursuit of business objectives.

Our fourth Service Excellence principle reminds us of our Company's dedication to "Ethical and Fair Treatment of all." That principle states, "We are committed to forming relationships of fairness and trust with our patients, our physicians, purchasers of our services, and our employees. We will conduct our business according to the highest ethical standards."

This Code of Conduct applies to all STHS personnel including, but not limited to, the Board of Governors, officers, employees, and all contractors, subcontractors, agents, physicians and other members of the STHS medical staff.

STHS is committed to compliance with all Federal and State healthcare program requirements, including a commitment to prepare and submit accurate claims consistent with such requirements. To meet this goal, STHS has established an enhanced Compliance Program that is directed by a Compliance Officer and Compliance Committee, who are charged with implementing and overseeing the STHS Compliance Program and who report directly to the STHS Board of Governors.

All STHS personnel are expected to comply with all Federal and State healthcare program requirements and with all STHS Policies and Procedures, including but not limited to participation in all required compliance training.

If you suspect any violation of Federal or State healthcare program requirements or STHS Policies and Procedures, you are expected to report the suspected violation to the STHS Compliance Officer or to the STHS Compliance Hotline. Reporting can be accomplished by contacting the STHS Compliance Officer or utilization of the Compliance Hotline by telephone or internet. All reports of potential compliance issues through this program will be kept confidential.

Employees can be assured that their anonymity will be maintained, if they so desire. Further, no employee will suffer any retaliatory consequences or actions for reporting suspected compliance matters. STHS will initiate appropriate investigations of compliance reports and take appropriate corrective action as warranted.

Failure of STHS and//or its personnel to comply with applicable laws or the compliance program of STHS may subject STHS to civil, criminal, or administrative penalties including exclusion from Federal or State healthcare programs.
